Alvin Douglas Martin

Melville - Alvin Douglas Martin age 76, known affectionately as Doug, passed away on July 8, 2024, in Lafayette, LA, at the age of 76. A resident of Melville, Doug was born on August 19, 1947, in Poinsett, Arkansas to Virgil and Clara Martin, the sixth out of seven children. He was a devout member of the Grace Community Lighthouse Baptist Church. He never met a stranger, and jokes always came easy for him. He also enjoyed fishing and cooking among other hobbies. He spent many years working with the fine folks at Gulf Coast Event Services and was a driver for Ellis farms in recent years. And in his younger years enjoyed cooking at Michael Arnone’s Crawfish festive; sharing our food and culture with those up north. He leaves behind his loving wife of forty years, Rebecca Martin; daughters, Bridget and Tabatha; sons, Philip, Paul, and Preston; a cherished group of nieces, nephews and grandchildren; sisters, Joan and Virgie; brother, Jerril. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Clara; sister, Vonda; and brothers, Charles and Carl. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
