Broussard - Amelia Josephine Latiolais age 68. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Amelia J. Latiolais, who left us peacefully at her home in Broussard, LA, on August 24, 2024. Born on September 30, 1955, Amelia will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, dedication, and vibrant spirit. A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Amelia graduated from Cathedral Carmel School before earning dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She furthered her education with a master’s degree from Piedmont College. Amelia devoted over 20 years to teaching elementary school in Gwinnett County, GA, where her passion for education touched the lives of countless students. Upon retiring, Amelia returned to her beloved Louisiana, where she embraced her retirement with the same enthusiasm she brought to her career. She was an avid reader and a talented cook, and she cherished the time spent spoiling her two cats and visiting with friends and neighbors. Amelia’s warmth and generosity were evident to all who knew her. Amelia is survived by her son, Gareth Griffin of Durham, NC; her siblings Felisa Rahn (Jim Milarski) of Bensenville, IL, Diana Rodriguez (Don Suggs) of Lafayette, LA, Mary Woodall (Bill Woodall) of New Orleans, LA, and Joseph Latiolais (Mary Latiolais) of Duluth, GA; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of Amelia’s life will be announced at a later date. Her ashes will be laid to rest at Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette, LA. In this time of loss, her family takes comfort in the enduring legacy of her love and the many lives she touched.
