Arthur Gene Maricle

Gene Maricle, of New Iberia, LA fell asleep in death on March 10th, 2024 at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital. Arthur Gene Maricle, known to all his friends and family as Gene, was born to Shirley and Lottie Maricle, on January 24th, 1945, in Pitkin, LA. He was always a hard worker, even working with his grandparents on their dairy farm to make money for school clothes at the age of five. In early 1964, Gene met Judy Laine Dupre. After dating for 2 months they married in May of 1964. They were married for almost 60 years. They moved to New Iberia in 1965 where they raised two children, Mitch and Octavia. Later, having four grandchildren who affectionately called him Poppy. On April 10, 1976 Gene dedicated his life in service to Jehovah by getting baptized. Gene was also known for his unwavering faith which he expressed to others. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gene used his time to share the Bible truths he learned and loved with others. His generous spirit moved him and Judy to open their home on many occasions throughout the years for Bible studies and to house disaster relief volunteers. He became a truck driver for W. L. Estis in 1965 before working for the Texaco Oil Company. In 1976, Gene left his job there as an oilfield pumper so that he could spend more time with his family. He started his own automobile collision repair business in New Iberia in that same year. As a local businessman, Gene was well respected by the community and was known for his kind and mild demeanor. He loved working with his hands and received much joy and satisfaction in helping others. Despite retiring, you could stop by Maricle’s Body & Paint Shop on many days and find Gene there lending a hand to his son and sipping on a fresh cup of coffee. Gene is survived by his wife, Judy Laine Dupre Maricle; son, Lawrence Mitchell Maricle and wife Rebekah; daughter Octavia Lynn Maricle Aucoin and husband Danny; granddaughter Bethany Elena Maricle Wolfe and husband James Townsend, granddaughter Gabrielle Elise Maricle, grandson Shea Micheal Aucoin and granddaughter Victoria Elise Aucoin; sisters, Hilda Coker and husband Bryant, Rowena Romero and husband Greg, and Shelia Desormeaux; sisters-in-law Mary Fontenot and Hazel Delahoussaye along with many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Lottie Maricle, in-laws Lawrence and Ida Dupre, brothers-in-law, Luna Fontenot, Harry Delahoussaye and David Desormeaux, niece Cynthia Lynn Coker and niece and nephew-in-law Nancy and Brudley Kibodeaux. Memorial services will take place at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1401 Marjie Street in New Iberia, LA 70560 on Saturday, March 16th at 1 p.m. Family will be there for visitation at 12:00 pm until time of service at 1:00.
