Cheryl Lynn Trahan, a long-time resident of the Lafayette area, passed away at 2:08 AM on December 31st, 2025, at her residence in Lafayette, LA. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ms. Trahan was the daughter of the late John Hansel Trahan Sr. of Creole, Louisiana and the late Velma Lou Montie Trahan of Grand Chenier, Louisiana. Born in Creole, LA in 1954, Cheryl lived in Cameron Parish until the Trahan family moved to the Lafayette area in the early 1960's. For most of her life, she unselfishly played the role of caretaker and nurturer for many within and outside of the Trahan family. She helped care for younger siblings when she herself was only a child. And when she became a young mother in the early 1970’s, her innate “momma bear” was on full display. Her daughter was the apple of her eye, and Cheryl provided her with fierce protection. This same love was also freely given to her two beloved grandchildren. When Cheryl’s mother and sister became seriously ill, it was she who stepped up to provide extended care for them. Cheryl had a great sense of humor and the ability to laugh at herself and others. She was a movie and music lover, keeping a special place in her heart for Janis Joplin, who showed true beauty can come from the unlikeliest of places. In a world of cynicism and selfishness, Cheryl’s legacy is one of giving gentle and unconditional empathy and love. It’s an overused cliché, but Cheryl truly made this world a better place and will be sorely missed by all those who loved her. Cheryl is survived by one daughter, Meagan Ann Chaudhry, two grandchildren, Tyler Christian Geer and Hanah Lynn Chaudhry, one sister, Sandra Searle; four brothers, John Trahan, Jr. and wife Dana, Terry Trahan and wife Earl, Michael Broussard, and Robert Lyons; six nephews and nieces, Amanda Guilbeau and husband Adam, Haley Pitre and her husband Shawn, Cameron Trahan, Peyton Trahan, Christopher Shon Trahan, and Michall Vaudt. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Hansel Trahan, Sr. and Velma Lou Montie Trahan, two brothers, Ronald Keith Trahan and Wilson Joseph Trahan, two sisters, Judith Ann Babineaux and Tina Marie Trahan, one niece, Cari Michelle Smiley, and one nephew, Jonathan R. Lambright.
