Lafayette- Dennis Sullivan was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, July 11, 1947 and died in Lafayette, Louisiana on October 26, 2024. He is survived by his wife and companion of almost 36 years, Rosemary Schnaars Sullivan of Lafayette. He is also survived by his sister Karen Bohannon of Portland, Oregon; stepsons Daniel Schnaars, Jr. (Sonia) and Matthew Schnaars (Dyan), grandsons Dylan O'Halloran (Hanna Ott) and Zachary, Jacob, Brock, and Austin Schnaars all of Lafayette; and various nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Audrey (Lawrence) Sullivan; one brother, Ronald; and one sister, Cheryl Sullivan.Sullivan graduated in 1965 from St. Joseph-Ogden High School in Illinois and then went to General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1970. He worked at the Southern Illinoisan newspaper in Carbondale as staff photographer while in college. After college he moved back to Champaign/Urbana and went to work at The News-Gazette in Champaign as a photographer, reporter, and then city editor. He moved to Louisiana to be managing editor of The Daily Iberian in New Iberia, Louisiana. He moved to Lafayette and worked as public relations manager for Sides & Associates, marketing manager for BA Savings Bank, editor for Acadiana Lifestyle/Lifestyle Lafayette, and as a freelance writer for Acadiana Profile. After retirement, Sullivan worked nights as electronics manager for Walmart. He was active in the Rotary Club of Lafayette South. He was Rotarian of the Year, received awards for newsletters and was club president and a Paul Harris Fellow. Funeral services will be private. Memorial donations can be made to Rotary Club of Lafavette South.
