Youngsville - Known as a beacon of light to her family and a warm heart to all, Edith "Cathy" Smith, 75, peacefully went to be with the Lord at her residence on June 27, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Edith was born in St. Martinville, LA, on August 5, 1947, to Francis Roy Malagarie Sr. & Mary Nola Armentor Malagarie, residents of Broussard, LA. Immediately after graduating from Youngsville High School, class of 1965, she married the love of her life, Isaac Hensley Smith, and together they began building a beautiful life. Her only condition was that she be able to stay home to raise their children, while being a full-time housewife. After 58 years of marriage, the births of three daughters, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, it can be easily said that she indeed fulfilled that wish. Her favorite place to be at was Keller's Bakery of Youngsville; often joking that she owned stock in the business. She had her own designated area to sit each morning she went, and boy did they spoil her. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling, having gone on many trips with her husband, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law. She was an avid reader and loved to watch Dr. Pol, Dr. Oakley & several home renovation shows. With a green thumb, she possessed a great love for plants. Her comforting hugs and words of wisdom were soothing to all she encountered. What a legacy she has built. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A special thanks from the family is given to her long-time best friend, Mrs. Mary Bourque Maturin of Youngsville, who helped in her transition to be with Jesus. You have been a blessing to our family, Shug. Also, to Dr. Pernell Simon, MD, who provided wonderful care for Cathy. Thank you will never be enough! She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Roy Sr. and Nola Malagarie; her mother & father-in law, Didier and Emily Smith, and her brother, Francis Roy Malagarie Jr. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Isaac Smith of Youngsville, three daughters, Shanon (Jeff) Smith of Youngsville, Nancy (Rusty) Guidry of Abbeville, & Deedra Smith of Youngsville; a sister, Pamela (Orile) Broussard of Erath; seven grandchildren, Tyler Burley of Youngsville, Teryn (Corey) Thibodeaux of Youngsville, Ashley (Joshua) Rodriguez of Abbeville, Amanda Allen of Abbeville, Seth Cashat of Youngsville, Jesse Laperouse of Abbeville & Adam Cashat of Youngsville; one step grandchild, Ahni Smith of Youngsville; eight great-grandchildren, Zakk (Tyler) Burley, Cye, Che, Cyd, Taj & Tia (Teryn) Thibodeaux, and Evan & Noah (Ashley) Rodriguez. Our prayer to Granny: May you always walk in sunshine, and God’s love around you flow. For the happiness you gave us, no one will ever know. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of us went with you the day God called you home. A million times we've needed you, a million times we've cried. If only love could have saved you, you would’ve never died. The Lord be with you and may you rest in peace. The family request that visitation be observed at Colligan Crematory & Funeral Services on Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Senior Pastor Byron Hypolite of Disciples of Christ Jesus will conduct the memorial service beginning at 7:00 PM.
