New Orleans - Francis Jacob III (Jake), went to his eternal rest Monday, April 15th, on his 84th birthday at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Arnaudville, LA. Francis is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Jacob Jr and Claire Borne Jacob. Francis is the patriarch of the Jacob family. Survived by his faithful and loving wife of 61 years, Catherine (Sandie) Wallace Jacob, his three “daddy’s girls”, Claire Dejean (Larry), Alexandra (Sasha) Massel and Marie Jacob (Shane), “best paw-paw ever” to his grandchildren, Jacob, Laurel Ann (Aaron), Tyler, Mia and Alli, great-grandpa to baby Ember, big brother to loving siblings, Don Jacob (Joanna), Cathy Gaffney (James), Jerry Jacob and affectionate uncle to his nieces and nephew. Francis was a proud New Orleanian, born and raised in New Orleans, graduated from Jesuit High School and attended Loyola University. He married and raised his girls in Metairie, spending all non-working time with family and best friends. Once retired, he moved to Opelousas, LA to be a full-time paw-paw.Francis retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy after 20 years of loyal service. He began his Navy career at the Naval Air Station Joint Base Reserve in Belle Chase, LA and ended at the Naval Support Activity Bywater facility on Poland Ave. Francis’ parallel career spanned 30 years in broadcasting including radio, news, video, and film production. He was an engineer and camera operator at WYES, news and sports photographer at WVUE, co-owner of LaDel Inc., where he did commercial, industrial, and documentary film production, video/audio engineer and camera operator for John Korbel Productions and worked many years in freelance production for local events including Mardi Gras and gospel music. His personal passions included: genealogy - where he traced the Jacob, Romagosa, Sentilles, Borne and Wallace family trees to the earliest of generations recorded, technology and computers - where he always had the latest techie gadgets, crossword puzzles – which he always worked in ink, playing Trivial Pursuit with family – where he won most of the time. Family and friends were his most treasured gifts and his devotion to them was witnessed in countless ways over the years. Francis always shared stories of his childhood, a childhood filled with love, laughter, and fun. His memories of grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins were shared with everyone over the years, and we will continue to share these in his memory to keep alive the spirit of our beloved Jacob family. He fondly remembered and shared a myriad of stories of his younger days and shenanigans with best friends Manny and Joan Calamari and Richard Hale. His lifelong friendship with the Calamari family had a special place in his heart.
