Mire, La.-Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at a 12:00 p.m. Mass Of Christian Burial at Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church in Mire, La. for Gregory Paul Venable, 68, who died Sunday, February 4, 2024 due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis at St. Joseph’s Hospice Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, La. Father Edward Duhon, Pastor of Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church in Mire will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Inurnment will be in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery in Mire, La. Musical selections will be provided by Charlotte Jagneaux and Phylis Simar Greg grew up in the Bosco/Mire Community and then lived 30 years in the City of Crowley before retiring in Lafayette. Greg was born December 29, 1955 in Rayne, La. He was a graduate of Rayne High School where he was selected as Mr. RHS. Greg obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) and his Master of Science in Agriculture from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. Affectionately referred to by his students and faculty as Mr. “V”, Greg educated the youth of Acadia Parish as an Agriculture teacher at Crowley High School for 34 years until being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Greg was an avid supporter of the LSU Tigers Football and Baseball programs. Greg was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity (USL), USL Alumni Association, FFA Alumni Association, National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, Louisiana Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, Louisiana Vocational Association, LSU Alumni Association, Gamma Sigma Delta Fraternity (LSU) and the Tiger Athletic Foundation (LSU). Greg also served as a Louisiana Certified Hunter Education Instructor, Louisiana Certified Boating Education Instructor, Louisiana Certified Aquatic Education Instructor and Past Secretary of the Acadia Parish Rice Museum Board of Directors. Survivors include one sister Mona Leger of Lafayette, two brothers, Allen Venable of Lafayette and Stewart Venable (Russell) of Baton Rouge, La. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Venable, mother Willie Mire Venable, two sisters, Deborah Venable and Christine Venable Savage and brother, Andy Venable. Maternal grandparents Elie Mire and Thea Mire Leger (Step Grandfather Alphan Leger) Paternal grandparents Joseph E. Venable and Estelle Prejean Venable. The family requests that visitation be observed in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, La. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Gregory Paul Venable’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 Colligan Funeral Services in Broussard is in charge of arrangements.
