James Blake Buteaux, age 37, passed away on April 17, 2026. James, known to most as Blake, was a man who loved working with his hands and was always fixing or building something. He had a natural talent for creating and repairing, and he took great pride in helping others whenever he could. Known for his gentle spirit and kind heart, Blake left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He found peace in the outdoors—especially while fishing—where he could relax and appreciate life’s simple pleasures. Blake was also artistically gifted. He had a passion for drawing and painting and expressed it on everything.
He is survived by his loving mother, Kimberly Buteaux; his sisters, Morgan Buteaux; Aurelia Buteaux Davis and her husband, Marcus; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Kobe Derouen, Kohen Derouen, Makenzie Derouen, Au’Mar Davis and Bre’Anna Davis.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Norris Buteaux.
Pallbearers will be Kobe Derouen, Chad Derouen, Scott Romero, Marcus Touchet, Lance Buteaux, Joey Bergeron, and Billy Joe Reaux.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kohen Derouen and Au’Mar Davis.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Colligan Crematory & Funeral Services in Broussard. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
Blake will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
