Lafayette - Jewel (Dre) Prejean, 83, passed away on January 12, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed. Jewel was born on February 21, 1940 in Lafayette, LA to Lydia and Oscar Patin. After graduating from Holy Rosary Institute, she married Michael Donald (Don) and started her life as a military spouse. She and Don had three children, Andrea, Michael and Keith and raised them around the world. Jewel spent 20 years as a military spouse living in numerous states and in Asia and Europe. She loved to read and travel — instilling those loves in her children. She devoted herself to being a homemaker, spending many hours as Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, room mother, team mother, and Catechism Teacher. After returning to Lafayette, she volunteered at the Miles Perret Cancer Services and took to building miniature houses. Jewel was predeceased by her parents, Lydia and Oscar, her husband Don, her son Michael, and her brothers Oscar and Errol and her sister Dolores. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea, son, Keith, daughter-in-law Katherine, grandchildren, Lorin, Kylie and Connor, sister, Gwendolyn and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a Hospice Center in your community. There will be a mass and celebration of her life at St. Basil Catholic Church 1803 Duhon Rd, Duson, LA 70529 on March 9, 2024 at 11 am.
