DeRidder- Joseph Jay McGee, affectionately known as Jay, passed away peacefully at the age of 65. Born in Jefferson County, Texas, to Mangus X. McGee and Gereva Deshotels, Jay spent his formative years in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana. His career journey saw him working as a sandblaster before establishing and running his own successful trucking company. Jay's life was rich with passion and adventure. He cherished traveling with his beloved wife, Darla McGee, and found immense joy in camping with family and friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle, all of which brought him great happiness and fulfillment. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Magnus Y. McGee and Geneva Deshotel; his stepfather, Roy; and his sister, Patricia Tilley. He is survived by his devoted wife, Darla McGee; four stepchildren: Chad Parker, Krissi McCann, Cody Parker, Trevor Parker and his brother David McGee; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jay also leaves behind his brothers: Magnus "Sonny" McGee (Cindy), John McGee (Sharon) and David McGee; his sisters: Margaret Arrant, Deanna Conner, and Janine Edgell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jay's life will be held on September 14, 2024, at 11 AM at the Shady Grove Community Building, located on Highway 26 in DeRidder, Louisiana. Friends and family are invited to gather from 11 AM until the time of the service to honor and remember Jay. In tribute to Jay's enduring spirit of joy and generosity, the family encourages everyone to embrace joy in their own lives and to share that joy with others.
