Lafayette, LA — Mary Hebert Campbell, a beacon of strength and love, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at the age of 96. Born amidst the tumult of the 1927 flood, Mary’s life was marked by resilience and an unwavering spirit from its very beginning. Mary’s journey through life was a testament to her enduring strength and character. Overcoming the challenges of a tumultuous early life, she faced her battles with double cancer with unmatched courage and grace. Her perseverance was matched only by her warmth and generosity of spirit. She was not only a fighter but a source of boundless love and joy for those around her. With an ever-present smile and a heart as expansive as her Louisiana roots, Mary had a remarkable ability to uplift and support her family and friends. Her enduring moral and physical strength became a guiding light for those fortunate enough to know her. Her family, friends, and community will remember her not just for her resilience but for her kindness, her laughter, and the immense love she shared with all. Mary is survived by her children; Glenn Patrick Campbell, Mike Campbell, Deanna Castille and Virginia Ashy, her only surviving sibling Gloria Granger and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Otto Hebert and Lucette Broussard, husband Francis Campbell, and sons Francis Campbell, Kenneth Campbell and Mickey Campbell. A celebration of Mary’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, where her loved ones will gather to honor the memory of a truly exceptional woman.
