Mamou- Masa Higo Fuselier, 92, passed away on August 12, 2024, at Our Lady of the Oaks in Lafayette, LA. Born in Japan on October 10, 1931, Masa met and married the love of her life, Joseph Sherril Fuselier, while he was serving in the Navy in Okinawa, Japan. They married in 1966. Following his death in 1974, Masa adopted his hometown of Mamou, LA as her own. In addition to her beloved Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Lessie Fuselier, her son Mark Fuselier, and her brother-in-law Dionel Fuselier. She is survived by her daughter, Tina Ray, and her husband, Jamie, as well as their daughters Abbi and Lilli, and three other grandchildren, Joseph Fuselier, Hunter Fuselier and his wife Regan, and Chloe’ Fuselier. She also leaves behind two great-grandsons, Kayson Cortina and Korbyn Johnson, her daughter-in-law, Tanya Fuselier, her sister-in-law Tineke Fuselier, and a host of cherished nieces and nephews and friends. After her husband’s death, Masa dedicated her life to their family. An amazing cook, she shared her Japanese dishes and Cajun delicacies alike with anyone who crossed the threshold of her home. Her hospitality became legendary, second only to the actual food. She loved sports, especially football, and could be found cheering on the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints on the weekends. She adored her family, her home, her friends, and her town with her whole heart. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Our Lady of the Oaks, Hope Hospice, and her roommate and friend, Rona Jackson. As per her wishes, she was cremated and will be interred alongside her husband and son. A private ceremony for immediate family will be held at a later date.
