Mildred loved her community and spent most of her career working at the Iberia Council on Aging. She was instrumental in starting the Council’s Meals on Wheels program in 1979 when she recognized that there was a gap in services while caring for her aging father. She served in many different capacities while working for the Council, but her favorite role was as the Event Coordinator/Party Planner. Mildred organized bus trips, costume parties, weekly dances with live bands, and other fun events for the Senior Citizens of Iberia Parish. Her joyful spirit and genuine love of community drew people in and made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She loved live music and would frequently kick off the weekly dances shouting, “Are you ready to party?” which got everyone moving. Mildred loved her family and was intentional about spending quality time with them. She enjoyed cooking for them on Sunday, cheering them on at events, shopping with the girls, or just visiting with them in her home. Mildred was a devout Catholic and had a relationship with Jesus. She believed in the power of prayer and spent much time praying for her family, friends, and community. She always had a smile and was a happy person. Mil had an infectious laugh that caused those around her to laugh as well. She was truly a lady with a heart of gold and was loved so deeply by her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her prized possessions. Mil made memories with them that her family will look back on and cherish for a lifetime. Readers will be Tracey Clines and James Breaux. Gift bearers will be Caroline Hargrave, Lillian Burns, and Kim Delahoussaye.
