Paul Ashby West, age 58, of Opelousas, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends after his courageous battle with cancer. Through every challenge, Paul never gave up hope and faced life with strength, grace, and an unwavering spirit.Paul was a man who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved spending time fishing, playing golf, and cheering on his beloved New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers as their self-proclaimed number one fan. His love for music shined brightest when he played guitar for friends and family. Whether he was grilling or making his famous "chili", Paul was known for his easygoing nature and kind heart. Paul never judged others and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. His gentle personality and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Shelly Smith West; his cherished pet companions, Jax, Louie, and Purrsia; his brother, Richard West and wife Amy; and his sisters, Jennifer West and Lisa West.Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Harrington and Gloria West, his brother, Ben West, as well as his beloved cats of 18 years, Sammy and Jessica.A Memorial Service celebrating Paul’s life will be held from noon to 3pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the chapel of Colligan Crematory & Funeral Services in Broussard, Louisiana.Though he fought a long and difficult battle, Paul’s legacy will be remembered through his resilience, compassion, love for family, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and optimism.
