New Iberia - Rickie P. Romero, 69, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday May 7, 2024 in the chapel of Colligan Crematory & Funeral Services in Broussard, La. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00PM with Services at 4:00PM and Rosary at 5:00PM. Born in New Iberia, LA, on April 28, 1955, living the last few years in Westlake, LA. He was the son to the late Elodias and Althea Romero and was lovingly known as "Slick Rick" to friends and family. A proud alumnus of New Iberia Senior High School, Rickie devoted many years of service to Entex before retiring due to disability. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, often found savoring music with a cup of coffee outdoors, tending to his plants, making sure his yard was well manicured with a trim line design as he always said or polishing his cherished car. A man of great appetite, Rickie's love for food was only matched by his dedication to his family. A devout member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, he also served with joy in the church choir for many years and never missed an opportunity to dance, a testament to his spirited character. Rickie’s memory will be treasured by his beloved daughter, Lily Kay Romero; daughter and son-in-law, Ricki Nichole and Donald Johnson; step daughter, Mecah Fontenot; his cherished grandchildren, Drake, Vivian, Makennah, Baleigh, and Zayden; as he would say his brother from another mother, Gene Picard; and all the lives he’s touched. In addition to his parents, he was greeted in heaven by ancestors and friends who predeceased him. His legacy of joy, his commitment to his loved ones, and the echoes of his Cajun phrases such as “wayyy” will remain in the hearts of those who knew him. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
