New Iberia - Rodney James Darby age 63. . It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother, Rodney James Darby. He passed away on July 27, 2025. He was 63 years old. Rodney was born and raised in New Iberia, LA, where he built a life defined by his love for family, friends and the simple joys of life. A passionate fan of the LSU Tigers, Rodney’s love of football was matched only by his appreciation for good food, good coffee, and music. He had a natural gift for making others laugh, with his sharp wit and his sense of humor. Whether he was engaged in friendly debates or enjoying the company of friends, Rodney’s presence always brought joy and energy to any room. He loved connecting with friends over a cup of coffee, a delicious meal or a spirited conversation. Rodney is survived by his loving siblings: Frankie Hewitt, Michael Darby, Peggy Cormier (Ed) and Charlene Johns (Jaimie). He is also survived by his nephews: Dean Darby (Kay), Bradley Darby, Jason Hewitt, Logan Johns (Azelin), and nieces: Benita Barrera (Felix), Nicki Lovell (Chad), Jaymie Quintana (Jason), Allison Louis (Jim), Lauren Johns, Stevie Breaux (Glenn), Andrea Cakalic (Luke), and Emily Neher (Micah). He also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Earl Darby and Andrea Bergeron Darby, his brother Carroll Dean Darby, his sister-in-law, Shirley Darby, and his brother-in-law, James Hewitt. Rodney will be greatly missed by his dear friend, Jaime Lyn Duran, whose friendship he cherished dearly. A private memorial service will be held at a later date for immediate family and friends.
