Rufus Day Jr.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Rufus Day, Jr., who departed this life on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at his residence in New Iberia, Louisiana. Rufus will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew him. He cherished the time spent with his loved ones and leaves behind many treasured memories that will forever be held close. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Rosa Dixon Day; his father, Rufus Day, Sr.; his stepfather, Clarence Albert Jones; his aunt Louise Williams; his uncle, Melton Williams; his brother, Larry Day; his nephew, Roy Thomas; his niece, Irma Thomas; his great-niece, Kayvin Thomas; his great-great nephews Joshua Johnson and Jakari Gregoire. Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Shirley Day Thomas; his nephew: Henry Thomas, Jr. (Misty); his nieces: Ella Marie Day, Rose Thomas, Bridget Jenkins (Kevin), Margo Thomas, Yolanda Thomas; his adopted niece, Nancy Johnson; and his loving friend, Adrienne Lee. He also leaves to cherish his memory his great-nieces and great-nephews: Tasha Clark (Brian), Charelle Morgan (Mitchell, Jr.), Christopher Jamal Joseph, Billy “B. J.” Thomas (Kayelani), Breanna Bowers, Alyssa Beverly (Jeremy), Roy “Lil’ Roy” Jeanlouis, Latoya Allen (Quantrell), Abram Thomas (Erica), Kristian Thomas, Kayla Thomas, Jasmine Thomas, Kamille Jenkins, Katera Jenkins, Anthony Daye, TaNisha Daye, Kayvin Thomas, Kaitlyn Thomas, Kalen Thomas, Reichen Willis, and Grai Thomas. He also leaves to cherish his memory his great-great nieces and great-great nephews: Omari Morgan, Onyx Morgan, Braydon Smith, Olivia Clark, Mason Clark, Cassidy Clark, Jaquandre Allen, Jatrin Allen, Jamyni Allen, Kiayler Narcisse, Kiasen Narcisse, Brooklyn Thomas, Parker Joseph, Christian “CJ” Joseph, Dakaylon Daye, Armani Daye, Ahnyx Jolee Daye, TaNija Daye, Tylon Daye, Tyjun Daye, TaLiah Daye, Thomas Robinson, Thomia Robinson, Melani Thomas, Kai Thomas, and the future Nash Beverly; along with numerous extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives he touched. Though Rufus has departed from this earthly life, the love he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
