Lafayette - Salvador Colin age 58. To speak of Salvador Colin I (1965-2024) in the past tense provokes incredulous resignations as it confirms that we are losing an exceptional man. He was a dedicated father, husband, brother, uncle, and countless other titles. He lived his life with the word of God as his guiding post. His faith anchored and drove him, it gave him strength to move forward while also maintaining him present to cherish the minutes of the day. He was born in La Mira, Michoacán, México and came to the United States at the age of 15 where he settled in northern California. Then at the age of 33, he and his wife moved their family to Lafayette, LA where he set his roots enamored by the hot humid thunderstorms. He was known by his family as a joyful, funny, and brave man. His colleagues knew him as an invincible, resilient, and committed worker. He was the man who held the door for strangers, he said hello to anyone that crossed his path, and never said “no” when given the opportunity to help anyone in need. He began working in foundation concrete work in 1998 and he quickly learned the trade through his conviction and determination, eventually creating Sal’s Construction, LLC. Those around him undoubtedly saw the talent he held to lead and as he brilliantly put it, “build something from the ground up with his bare hands.” That was Salvador Colin’s gift, he could build anything and anyone from the ground up with his smile, wit, and brilliant warmth. When he entered a room, everyone knew that he was a man to be revered. Surrounded by his loving wife, children, and siblings in his final moments, he was a man of immense humor and wisdom. He is preceded in death by his mother, Romelia Lopez Sandoval, his father Jose Natividad Colin Moreno, his sister Aida Colin, and his adoring younger brother Aroldo Colin. Salvador Colin leaves behind a great legacy through his wife of 35 years, Elvia Lopez, his son Salvador Colin II, his daughter, Stephanie Colin PhD, and his daughter-in-law Tessa Sullivan. His brilliance extends to his five siblings: Rafael Colin (Seattle, WA.), Elvia Pierini (Sacramento, CA.), Angela Colin (Sonoma, CA.), Tonia Colin-Alvarado (Emmett, ID.), and Alma Romero (Boise, ID.) along with his many nieces, nephews, and countless family members. Salvador Colin’s benevolent character and resounding heart will live on for generations to come through the memory and conviction of his family, friends, and those who were honored and privileged to know him. Moving forward we may speak of him in the past, but his actions and character will resound in the present and the future.
