Baton Rouge - Tammy Preston Nilsen, age 58, passed away on July 1, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Tammy was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and then moved to Florida at very young age where she spent the majority of her life as a child, teenager, and young adult until moving to New Orleans to marry her husband, Paul Nilsen in 1993. Though their marriage ended in 1998, she remained devoted to her family, especially her two children, Paul and Sarah. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Tammy relocated to Baton Rouge in 2005. She later returned to Florida in 2008 to be near loved ones, before moving back to Baton Rouge in 2021 to support her daughter during a difficult time. That return marked a deeply personal journey for Tammy—a chance to reconnect, care for her family, and seek a fresh start. Tammy will be remembered for her resilience, her love for her children and grandchildren. Her life was not without struggle, but her heart remained full of love, especially for her family. Even through health challenges and hardship, she showed remarkable strength. She is survived by her father Jerry Preston, son Paul Nilsen, daughter Sarah Schultz, brother William Steven Preston, and her beloved grandchildren Gavin Goff and Cayde Barnes. She was preceded in death by her mother Janice Preston and her grandmother, with whom she shared a special bond. Tammy's journey reminds us of the power of forgiveness, the complexity of healing, and the unconditional love of family. She is now at peace, free from pain, and reunited with loved ones who went before her.
