Broussard - Thomas Joseph Murray Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A resident of Broussard, Louisiana for the past 29 years, Tom also lived in Houston and Perryton, TX, as well as many years in Lafayette, LA. He was formerly a member and elder of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation in Lafayette, LA. Born in 1939, Tom proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy for five years, earning an Honorable Discharge. After his service, he spent 38 years as a dedicated employee of Phillips Petroleum Company, retiring in December of 1999. An expert electrician and builder, Tom was known for his remarkable skills and craftsmanship. Whether it was a home repair or a custom project, he was always ready to lend a hand and share his knowledge with others. Tom is survived by his children: Laura Lynn Murray Olivas of Houston, TX; Thomas Joseph Murray Jr. of San Francisco, CA; Karen Renee Murray Gilmore of Houston, TX; and Jason Paul Murray of Broussard, LA. He is survived by his sister, Marion Frances Murray Olivier of Marble Falls, TX; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Tom is also survived by his former 2nd wife, and best friend, Carolyn Womack Murray of Deer Park, TX. Tom was preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Lynda Marie Murray Burkhalter; his sisters, Martha (Marti) Murray and Judy Murray, and by his half-brother Frederick Grant Hill. Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he touched with his generosity, kindness. and wisdom. A private service will be held in his honor at a later date.
