Abbeville - Van Landry age 78. A memorial mass will be held Monday, July 15, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville honoring the life of Van Landry who passed away on July 8, 2024 at Ochsner Hospital in Lafayette. Van was a proud son, husband, father and grandfather. He grew up in Kaplan and graduated from Kaplan High School in 1963. He met his wife Elizabeth Prather in 1964 and they married in 1966. Together they raised their two sons Greg and Kevin in Abbeville. Van worked in advertising and sales for the Moody Corporation for 17 years. Van's entrepreneurial spirit, which he gained from his father Maurice (Landry Hardware in Kaplan) led him to open a Mr. Gatti's Pizza franchise in Abbeville which he owned and operated for over 19 years. After the conclusion of his ownership of Mr. Gatti's, Van went on to manage the operation of the business machines at Lafayette General Hospital for over 10 years after which he retired. Anyone that knew Van was well aware of his love of sports especially Ragin Cajun baseball. Van served on the advisory committee tasked with seeking applicants, interviewing and recommending the hiring of Louisiana's Coach Tony Robichaux. He treasured the 40 plus years he and Elizabeth attended those games rarely missing a game sitting behind home plate. Van is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth of Abbeville, two sons Greg Landry of Abbeville, Kevin Landry (Lynn) of Youngsville, one brother Christopher Landry (Michelle) of Lafayette, three sisters Patricia Arena (Phillip Jr.) of Baton Rouge, Marlene Greene of Abbeville and Marisa Harrington of Kaplan, 3 grandchildren Marseille, Cooper and Alexander Landry and their mother Kelly Landry of Abbeville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Van was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Flo Landry, his brother Don Landry and his brother in law Edward Greene. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
