It is with great sadness that the family of Wanda Gale Prather formerly of Opelousas, LA and most recently residing in Lafayette, announces her passing on October 31, 2025. Gale was born on May 19, 1950 in Eunice, LA to Shelby and Oneida Barham Prather. After graduating with the Class of 1968 from Eunice High School, she went on to study math education at LSU. She was a proud Tiger fan all her life. She devoted more than 40 years of her life to teaching in Opelousas, most of those years at OHS. She did not just teach but was a friend and advocate for her students, going above and beyond to help them whatever their need. She was a cheerleader sponsor and could be found serving at the gate for football and basketball games. Beyond her career, Gale was a loving daughter and sister but even more so, a doting aunt and great aunt to her nieces and nephews and their children. Gale is preceded in death by her parents, Shelby and Oneida Prather, and a brother, Richard. She is survived by her siblings, Debbie (Donald) Hintze, Mark (Sandra) Prather, Oneita Smith, Juanita Harrington, Kenneth (Frances) Prather and Curtiss Prather. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their families whom she loved very much. A memorial service will be held on November 29th at 11:30 a.m.at the Opelousas Church of Christ, 2614 South Union, Opelousas, LA. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate her life. Gale will forever be missed by those who loved her.
